Feature Requests

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

  1. Editors and Tools

GarageGames has declared recently that has no internal plans to develop editors.

So T2D needs and integrated set of tools an editors as it always had, and is an opportunity to improve from the previous, as its starting from scratch.

There are other complementary ideas, like the Tile Map Editor, but the engine needs more than a map editor.

  5. Add Support for Tiled Map Editor (.TMX Files) into Torque 2D

Support for the Tiled Map Editor would enable Modders (People who create and add new content to games) for games Torque 2D games post launch. As well as the Garage Games team to focus on more important things other than the editor. Since one already exists.

    https://github.com/bjorn/tiled/

Note: The Tiled Map editor is based on the GNU public License.

  7. New GUI system

Rip out the current GUI system and replace everything with controls based on the Sprite/CompositeSprite/Particle systems.

This would also have a benefit in the future when it comes time to create editors for T2D. Instead of having 2 separate editors for scenes and GUIs like in previous versions of the engine, a single editor could be used for the creation and manipulation of scene/GUI objects.

  8. New Adjustments sprites!

    Drop Shadow, like photoshop
    Box Blur, Gaussian Blur
Vector Blur(motion blur) with controler param angle and amp
Color Correction sprites, like hue, saturation, gamma
Contour sprites effect, like photoshop stroke
And very, very cool, Flow Sprites for imitation liquid effects for our best game!

Now, all these effects have to do in the raster graphics editor, but if it was solved procedurally in the technology, it would reduce the number of sprites. And to make the effects more dynamic, controllable. To the best of our projects!

Thanks for the best 2D game engine ever!

  10. Native OUYA Support for Torque 2D

The Team at OUYA.TV has released their ODK (OUYA Development Kit) for the Android based game console OUYA.

    http://www.ouya.tv/devs/

Native OUYA support Should include -

Support for the OUYA Game pad bindings
    OUYA In App Purchase System
and the post launch stuff as it is released. (Achievements, etc.)

I personally want to see this for Torque 2D as it will have more people developing with Torque2D.

  11. Ability to have animations in a CompositeSprite

This would then allow integration of the Spriter data format into T2D as a next step.

  12. HTML5 or Webplayer ability.

Ideally, either by conversion to HTML5 or via a web-player plugin similar to what Unity has. The reason I bring this request to the table is that one of the major portal publishers we deal with has expressed extreme interest in web based gaming ability that keeps their users from having to download 150-200mb games in the casual world. Adding this option to T2D would only enhance its future and solidify it among today's prime platforms.

  13. JavaScript API

Let's replace TorqueScript with JavaScript. I believe JS to be the superior language, with native support for more types, powerful first-class functions and garbage collection. It can also be very fast (see the V8 engine). Regardless of how I feel about it, JS is extremely popular, meaning there is a wealth of tutorial content and support. New users may be familiar with it already, and users who start their game dev/programming with T2D will learn a language they can use elsewhere.

A potential downside, of course, is that the community may be fractured between those who use TS and those…

Do you have any plan to support Multilanguage for users recently :) ?

such as ime input, utf8 to utf16, and freetype?

Can you tell me sth about that? thank you :)

I think it's very important and ahead of time,

  15. Support for Windows 8 native apps (with multi touch)

ie 'metro' style apps. Just curious to see if anyone votes for this, particularly compared to Linux/Android

  16. Positional audio support

OpenAL supports positional audio but these features are not enabled in the engine. These features should be exposed and a new scene object (AudioEmitter or AudioPlayer) created.

A thread on the audio system in T2D can be found here: http://www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/133227

  19. Series of Smaller Editors/Tools for large worlds in Isometric Games

I am proposing a series of smaller editors for Torque 2D for Isometric games. These Editors would cut down on the time needed to make large worlds in isometric games in general.

First one is a building editor - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kCr51C12uM

Second one is a World Editor for editing very large worlds - http://youtu.be/jmSCwklYKYY?t=4m19s

Third one is a Map Generator - http://youtu.be/jmSCwklYKYY?t=1s

Combining this with level streaming and an a drag and drop for buildings, game objects, triggers, adding events to these editors, etc. in the map editor would allow us to make very complex worlds in a shorter amount of…

  20. Full C++ Tutorial

If someone had managed to create a basic game without TS (or just with the main.cs entry point) it would be great to create a How To for implementing a small C++ game with Torque 2d Engine.

I've seen the post http://www.garagegames.com/community/forums/viewthread/133067 it is a good start but still far from a tutorial.

    Thanks ;))
